Addicks, Texas has had several names including Letitia, Bear Hill and Bear Creek. Named after the first postmaster, Henry Addicks, the town became a commercial center for local farmers and ranchers when the Texas Railroad was built. Addicks was completely destroyed in the Galveston Hurricane of 1900 and was not rebuilt until 1925. Now a suburb of Greater Houston, Addick Texas is small, but growing.
Fun Fact: Addicks Bear Creek Cemetery, located at the intersection of State Highway 6 and Patterson Road, contains the graves of the descendants of many of the original German settlers. |
