| Galena Park, Texas was first named Clinton, Texas by Isaac Batterson who built a small settlement on the Buffalo Bayou. This farming and ranching community quickly turned into a railroad and shipping center when the port of Houston was developed. When Clinton applied to have a post office and was turned down because there was already a Clinton, Texas, the city changed its name to Galena Park in honor of the Galena Signal Oil Company of Texas. The original name survives in the towns main street, Clinton Drive. |
