WHAT DREAMWORKS ANIMATION SAYS:
When California girl Susan Murphy is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk, she mysteriously grows to 490feet-11-inches tall and is instantly labeled a "monster" named Ginormica. The military jumps into action and she is captured and held in a secret governemnt compound. The world learns that the military has been quietly rounding up other monsters over the years. this ragtag group consists of the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B; and the 350-foot grub called insectosaurus. Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country.
OUR REVIEW:
Parents need to be prepared to answer some sticky questions, specifically about a boy and girl in the back of a car, where the girl is trying to seduce the boy and complains that nothing is happening. Be prepared to have "the talk" with kids who catch on or to open the lines of communication with kids who are already aware of what might happen in the back seat of a car on a dark field. Otherwise parents can expect plenty of gunfire, big explosions, alien deaths, property destruction and fairly intense fighting scenes. The language is pretty clean, with some name calling - jerk, stupid, boobies, idiot.
There is also a strong empowerment message for girls about not following someone else's dream in marriage or otherwise and having a strong sense of self confidence. (Even the girl in the backseat of the car is the aggressor...not necessarily a great message for young girls.)
