Synopsis:
The Chronicles of Narnia is most closely compared to the Harry Potter movies...so lets start there. The story does have a fantastical story line of good versus evil where good ultimately prevails. Instead of the children having magical powers, they encounter magical figures in talking animals, Santa Claus and fictional beasts. While some critics are also comparing The Chronicles of Narnia to the story of Christ, there are few comparisons. The Lion is supposed to be Christ, offered up a sacrifice to the White Which to forgive the youngest son of his betrayals. The Lion does then come back to life and saves the day, however there is no direct reference to Christ.
The movie takes place during WWII where four siblings are sent to live in a less violent atmosphere away from the war. During a game of Hide-N-Seek, they youngest sister, Lucy, discovers the magical wardrobe which transports her to the magical world of Narnia. There she encounters Thomnus the half deer, half man character and this is where we first learn of the danger she will face. Upon breaking the Professor's Window, all four children hide in the wardrobe and find themselves caught up in fight against the White Witch for control of Narnia. They befriend several wondrous characters from talking beavers to Santa Claus himself. In the end, with the help of Aslan, The Lion, the children are able to defeat the White Witch and return peace to Narnia.
Most of the movie is child friendly, however the epic fight scenes in the end along with some of the scary characters could give small children nightmares.
