When a $5 billion Space Agency probe disappears into an intergalactic wormhole, the agency recruits Ham III, grandson of the first chimpanzee in space, to help retrieve the wayward craft. Our Review:
Space Chimps is an interesting but somewhat annoying movie where the characters dialogue is way over kids heads. The plot sounds exciting, but there is a real lack of connection to the story and the overall lessoned learned is....well, we are still figuring that out. The movie focuses very little on the chimps on earth, or their adventure in space, and is mainly about the conditions of the aliens that live on a planet that can only be reached through a wormhole in space. Since it is too dangerous to send humans, chimps are the obvious alternative to test the environment in the wormhole.
The graphics and animation are great until you get to the aliens. The aliens are a little too out of this world, but I guess that is the point. Other than some mean name calling and the evil dictator quasi-freezing the other aliens, the movie is pretty safe for all ages. There are some scary snake creatures and a monster described as "flesh-eating". Younger kids might want to cover their eyes when the chase scenes come on.
Space Chimps is probably a better movie to watch when it comes out on DVD and not really worth heading out to theatres.
