| Texas Renaissance Festival Posted in Family Events by Mary Altemus October 9, 2008 05:01pm The Texas Renaissance Festival is in town starting October 11, 2008 (weekends only) through November 30, 2008. We have had some interesting experiences in the past and are not totally sure this is 100% family friendly...or should I say kid friendly. I would like to hear from some other parents on what they think and what kids can get out of going.

The Renaissance was a time where society as we know it was born. It is important for children to not only learn history, but experience it and parents should not let a couple of bad apples ruin that experience.
I think parents should take this opportunity to learn about this time period, why it was important, and what we can learn from it.
For example, the printing press was invented during this time and that made books afforadable for the masses. This allowed people to be able to learn again, where education before this time was not really a priority.
Christophe r Columbus found America during this time (I think) and we all know how that ended up.
Kids can gain a lot from the Renaissance Festival if parents do a little homework to help them understand.
