Balthazar Black is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath. Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler, a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protege. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE.
OUR REVIEW:
The Sorcerer's Apprentice takes the old world of magic and sorcery and brings it forward. With an ancient battle of good vs evil still playing out hundreds of years later, finding the modern day sorcerer to finally finish the war is more about believing it is possible. The under-dog ends up saving the day and getting the girl, as audiences pretty much expect. With some fun computer graphics, the storyline is very predictable, but still a fun movie. The violence has a larger-than-life feel with no visible injuries, blood or gore and the language is very mild, with mostly threats of killing and use of the word hell. The storyline is a bit more grown up than the typical kid's Disney movie, so little ones will probably loose interest quickly.
