Synopsis:
The Spiderwick Chronicles is a beautiful mix of reality and computer animation, however is lacks a plot that keeps the audience interested or guessing what is going to happen next. In fact, the plot might be more suitable for younger children, but the violence and scary characters are not.
The story is very simple. A newly divorced mother moves her three children from New York to a family owned, run down house in a small town. The previous owner of the house is now in a hospital for attempted suicide and delusional tendencies. One of the boys finds an old book with a warning not to read, but of course reads anyway and revives a magical world of sprite fairies, goblins and other unbelievable characters. They become scarier in appearance the angrier they get and they are after the family to get the book and destroy the world. No surprises. No interesting twists and turns. It is fun to imagine there might be a whole world existing among us that we don't even know about, but that is pretty much it.
Parents are strongly cautioned not to take children who scare easily.
